Review: Bourjois Bio Detox Organic Foundation
I've had this foundation for a while now and wanted to do a review ever since I bought it.
I actually bought it, because I tried the one my sister had and it was the first foundation in ages that was an exact match with my skin tone.
It's nice because it has got an ECO certificate (98.8% of the total ingredients are from natural origin, 21.9% of the total ingredients are from Organic Farming) an contains Chlorophyll (I don't think that actually helps for anything).
Ingredients: Aqua,Camelia Sinesis Leaf Water, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Cypric/Capric Triglyceride, Silca, Glycerin, Alcohol, Octyldodecanol, Simmondsia Chinesis Seed Oil,Glyceryl Stearate, Lauryl Laurate, Oryza Sativa Hull Powder, Polyglyceryl-2 dipolyhydroxystearate, Hordeum Vulgare Extract, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamae, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Benzyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Xanthan Gum, Parfum, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Glycine Soja Oil, Dehydroacetic Adic, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Phytate, Potassium Sorbate, Benzyl Salicylate, Camellia Sinesis Leaf Extract, Dextrin, Moringa Petrygosperma Seed Extract, Limonene
May Contain: Mica, CI 77007, CI 77491, CI 77499, CI 77891, 089MV 004-1
What they say about it:
DETOXIFY YOUR SKINFOR A PURE, FRESH AND EVEN COMPLEXION
This foundation perfectly evens out the complexion, minimizing pores' appearance and concealing imperfections.
Enriched with chlorophyll from plants that brings oxygen and filters pollution, it leaves the skin pure and fresh.
Its formula melts onto the skin for a no mask effect.
And... it’s good for my skin!
· Non-pore blocking, oil-free formula
· Anti-shine, natural rice powder
· Dermatologically tested
Packaging
The packaging is a nice glass bottle with a pump applicator. The pump applicator is actually great, because you can control how much foundation you want and plus one pump is more than enough for the full face.
The texture: It's creamy, but it dries REALLY fast. That means you have to work fast or you'll be left with blotchy patches on your face.
The scent: It's nice. Baby powder-ish. Not overwhelming.
Coverage: Medium, but buildable.
Finish: Matte.
Suitable for: Oily and Mixed skin
My experience:
I actually bought it because I loved the coverage! I used BB cream now for more than a year and I completely forgot how amazing more coverage can be, especially when you have lots of acne.
But I soon realized that it isn't so great as I thought. Yes, it smelled nice, it felt light on the skin, but it dried insanely fast and showed more imperfections than before! All of a sudden it looked like I had wrinkles around my eyes, strange skin on my chin and really dry (flaky) skin on my forehead. O.o?
I soon realized that's because I had dry skin on my forehead and around my acne.
So if you want to buy this to cover up acne, don't!
Another really bad thing was the fast drying time. You can't use your fingers, because it dries up literally in seconds which leaves you with blotchy application. The only solution is using a stippling brush or mixing it with some cream or another creamier foundation.
Since I don't have oily skin, but I'm rather on the mixed/dry part, it stayed quite a long time on me (6+ hours).
Pros
+ A perfect match for my skin tone! (#51)
+ Light feeling on skin
+ Matte finish
+ ECO certificate
+ The scent
+ Isn't tested on animals
+ Good coverage
+ Oil-free formula (great for oily or mixed skin)
+ Minimizes pores
+ Lasts 6+ hours on your skin (even if you sweat a bit)
+ Pump applicator
Cons
- It dries REALLY fast
- You need a stippling brush to apply it
- It makes your dry areas look worse (and the skin around acne is definitely dry)
- Not great for hiding acne
- Not suitable for dry skin
- It makes me break out :(
- It makes me break out :(
Overall: I like the matching shade, the scent and the coverage, but hate that it enhances my critical (and dry) areas, that's the exact opposite to what foundation should do.
